ICE Man Cometh
This painting portrays an ICE ( U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) official checking the immigration status of California vineyard workers.
These faceless workers have fictional armbands that reference the mandatory armbands for Jews in Poland during the 1940's. They portend a possible future when everyone is scrutinized, profiled and collected in a database.
Without the skilled labor of these immigrants, vineyards will be forced to become increasingly mechanized.
