This was painted during a time when I was thinking about the political hypocrisy of our times, especially Evangelical Christianity’s embrace of President Trump. Also, the debate around climate change- both those who deny that it has a man-made cause and our unwillingness to make sacrificial, substantive changes in our lives to reverse it.
And then I got one of those ubiquitous spam emails telling me they had found $15 Million in a suitcase at the Port Authority WITH MY NAME ON IT. And because the sender was a GOD FEARING MAN, he was not going to keep the money but return it to me, its rightful owner ( as long as I sent a couple of important personal details like social security number….)
I was playing around with that saying and thinking of its hypocrisy when I threw a comma into the mix and it changed the meaning completely.
